How to prevent overselling across Shopify, WooCommerce and Daraz
Overselling usually comes from delayed order intake, unmapped variants, stock edits made in the wrong system or failed remote updates. The remedy is an operational control loop, not only a faster API call.
Stop editing quantity independently on every store
When several stores sell the same unit pool, manual edits create competing totals. Decide where warehouse adjustments and receipts are recorded, then let channel quantities follow that master.
Audit every listing and variation mapping
A black variation and a white variation are separate stock units even when a marketplace groups them under one parent. Verify that every remote variation points to the intended local item and location.
Use webhooks plus a recovery pull
Webhooks minimize delay, but hosting or platform delivery can fail. A recurring updated-order pull and a manual recovery action should cover the same recent window without duplicating known orders.
Treat failed pushes as work to resolve
Show the store quantity, master quantity and most recent error together. Permission failures, disabled inventory tracking and stale remote IDs require different actions, so a generic success banner is not enough.
Define stock rules for cancellations and drafts
Write down when stock is reserved, deducted and restored. Draft, dead, historical, promotional, cancelled and returned orders should not all follow the same inventory rule.
Operational checklist
- Centralize stock adjustments.
- Monitor webhook recovery.
- Review variation mappings.
- Resolve mismatches by cause.
- Document reservation and restoration rules.
